If you have too many plants or are digging out or dividing overgrown plants, May Market accepts house and garden plants in pots, including annuals, perennials, vegetables, and starts. Native plant donations are especially welcome! Please label your plants. Unlabeled plants do not sell!

If you’re cleaning out your closets or garden shed or digging out overgrown plants, May Market accepts the following donations if they are clean, undamaged, and in good working condition:

  • Garden tools and accessories, including ceramic pots and planters, baskets, and garden ornaments
  • Home goods including small appliances, tools, dishes, and set of glassware
  • Toys and games
  • Art, antiques, vintage items, and picture frames
  • Accessories, including jewelry, hats, handbags, and scarves
  • Holiday decorations
  • Select small pieces of furniture

We do NOT accept:
  • Damaged, dirty, chippped or torn items
  • Incomplete items with missing or broken pieces or parts, such as puzzles missing pieces or dolls missing arms
  • Clothes
  • Books or DVDs (Please donate books to the New Castle Library Friends for their book sales. See their website for guidelines.)
  • Bulky or heavy items such as barstools or exercise equipment
  • Otherwise unsellable items such as plastic garden pots or single glasses, cups, or mugs

We're happy to give you a receipt of your donation for your records.

Dozens of volunteers make May Market possible every year. It's a great way to meet people and enjoy beautiful spring weather.

We ask volunteers to sign up for two-hour shifts. If you can help, please complete the form on the left or e-mail [email protected]. Volunteers are needed in five areas:

Donated Home Treasures is in the Arsenal (30 Market Street). We sell donated household goods at bargain prices. This is a good volunteer opportunity if you prefer to be indoors.

Donated Plants and Garden Treasures sells donated garden plants, houseplants, and garden tools and accessories at bargain prices.  This is a great way to learn about plants that thrive in this area and to help gardeners on a budget. Donated Plants are sold along Market Street between the Sheriff's House and the Arsenal.

Herbs sells dozens of varieties of herbs and attracts customers who know they'll find unusual herbs here. No herbs knowledge is needed, because all the plants are clearly labeled and experienced volunteers are present. This is a great way to learn more about herbs. Herbs are sold on Market Square, the brick plaza behind Town Hall (203 Delaware Street).

Annual & Perennial Plants sells dozens of varieties of annuals, perennials, houseplants and native plants. Because we can't compete with "big box" garden center prices, we specialize in eye-catching varieties people aren't likely to find elsewhere. No plant or garden expertise is needed, because all the plants are clearly labeled. In fact, this is a great way to learn more about a wide range of plants. Annual & Perennial Plants are sold on Market Square, the brick plaza behind Town Hall (203 Delaware Street).

Credit Card Sales: About half our proceeds come from credit card sales. We need volunteers at every sales center who accept credit card sales using an app on their smart phones. We'll train you in advance on what to do--it's easy and fun!

Setting up and packing up: Every sales center needs help with these!
